TL;DR I analyzed the results of a user journey mapping study, generated targeted insights, and presented the results to Viva Goals product leadership.
Their response to my insights was "I wish we'd had this years ago".
Product context: Microsoft acquired a business goals tracking software in 2021 to integrate into Viva Studios, their suite of work tools. The acquired software was designed for small-to-medium businesses, but as Viva Studios' client base was predominantly enterprise, Microsoft needed to figure out how to adapt it to better serve enterprise goal tracking needs.
Role context: A senior UX researcher had to leave unexpectedly partway through a complex user journey mapping study. I came in as a contractor to complete and land the project with minimal oversight.
Constraints:
Scope: In-depth interviews had been completed; I picked up the project at the start of data analysis and completed it.
Timeline: One month with a hard deadline; I was made aware of the hard deadline halfway through the project.
Staffing: I worked independently with brief check-ins as needed with my manager.
With time to spare, I...
undertook thematic analysis
created a user journey map
wrote actionable recommendations
highlighted potential areas for interfacing with gen AI (Copilot) along the user journey
refined the user segmentation
provided more context for core product assumptions
I presented the shareout deck in the final week of my assignment. During the shareout to the Viva Goals product leadership, leadership was engaged and asked insightful questions throughout about the implications for design, development, and marketing.
At one point the head of dev said, "I wish we'd had this years ago".
